In this article we will discuss one of the more cryptic Dreams from the Ivory Tablets of the Crow: The Dream of Quekanuit.
Quekanuit is said to be the Empty Space of the Warrior. It is a place that is empty of images and things usually perceived by the mind.
When the spirit enters Quekanuit the mind of thee will take a thousand forms. It is because of this reason that many call it the Dream of the Same Faces.
Being able to sit in stillness and observe the inner workings of the mind is the beginning of maturity. Our mind is usually entertaining stimuli from the outside world, yet when we sit still we find an internal world flooded with thoughts. These endless chains of thoughts are the thousand forms that the mind takes mentioned above.
Yet being able to observe one’s thoughts within the mind while noticing them as something completely separate from the Self, alludes back to the inherent empty nature of the Space of Quekanuit: the emptiness of thoughts within themselves. In observing thoughts we are able to step out of impulsivity and make choices from better thoughts that are not based on fight or flight response.
Know that when you enter this realm, thou will see an army of souls, and each soul is a deed that thou has performed in life. Some of these souls will be sad and others are happy. Some deeds will lust after their own selves. Every deed that one has performed will be seen by one, whether it be good or bad.
It is for this reason that many turn back from themselves and fear the journey. But do not be of this sort.
This passage is the initiate coming face to face with their own karma. We also receive our first warning. Accountability is the lesson here. To be able to take an honest look at one’s actions and take accountability is a scary thought to many people. Identifying with pain and victim-hood is much easier than taking responsibility for the realities we create for ourselves. It is much easier to run, hide, make excuses and blame others for our own decisions and the consequences of our actions. The inner work to begin taking control of one’s actions begin with being able to admit the wrong one has done while simultaneously acknowledging the capacity to be currently wrong! While many will justify their own wrong, we are told by the Crow not to be of this kind and face the Army of Deeds with courage and honesty.
And the Army of Deeds will come together to form one tall man with no hair. In his face one can see the deeds that they performed in life flashing and moving about the skin of the face and over the body. It is then that the Word of Quekanuit must be said seven times:
What can be said of this, aside from how ominous and imposing this tall man is! To see your own deeds flashing over the skin of his body… This is showing us how uncomfortable and grotesque our own deeds can be. It is a vulnerable feeling to face ourselves and our decisions we are no longer proud of. Yet soon, we will get to the root of these actions. From where is this karma created? Where do impulsive actions based on fight of flight (when not always necessary) come from?
When the word is said seven times the Quekanuit will turn into a small child with blue eyes and very pale skin. His face will have a very calmly appearance and he will bring you into the land of small children. DO NOT ENTER THIS LAND for your journey must continue.
And here is our second warning. The Quekanuit reveals itself as the inner child. While there are positive aspects of childlike nature, most adults know that children can be cruel. It is hard for a child to take accountability, for often they are ready to pass off the blame of their own actions to evade trouble! When someone is cruel to you, for example: saying the most unkind thing they can muster up to hurt your feelings and rob your peace, it is easy to see the crying child behind their facade. They are not at peace with themselves. When you are cruel you are hurt or afraid. You’ve chosen the fight response in fight or flight. When you are evading accountability and passing off blame to escape introspection, it is the flight response at play; to run and hide from the Self.
The impulsive, reactionary mind of the child is a key part of survival, however there is a time to grow up. One cannot gain control over the emotions while acting out of the impulsivity of a child. Being steered by emotions and the reactionary mind is the fate of all who do not leave the land of small children. It is childhood trauma that determines their responses to people and things around them, preventing healthy communication and relationships with community.
And the Quekanuit is an awesome test that must be entered from the Land of the Fahmu. There are many who come across the Quekanuit and know not the reason. These remain as children and awaken from the Dream of Quekanuit with the mind of a child.
Passing the realm of Quekanuit gives one better control over the energies of the heart and mind. And the Place of the Quekanuit must be entered from the Fahmu, else the mind will become like that of a young child for there is where the Sons of Confusion remain.
An adult bully was once either a child bully or bullied as a child. Often by other children, sometimes by adult children. The fruitless pastimes of gossip, character assassination, verbal abuse, physical abuse, blame games and attention seeking behavior all derives from those of childlike nature. Instead of seeking understanding and common ground, it is easier for such a child to cast stones and retreat into a safe space. Impulsive, emotional, fight or flight. The Sons of Confusion are the adult children, whom revel in this behavior.
Yet in not succumbing to the reactionary hurt of our inner child, we are able to gain control over our emotions, before they steer us to a road of self destruction through lack of accountability. So stand firm and face the Army of Deeds. Say the Word of Quekanuit to reveal the inner child behind your impulsive actions and move on to a better choice, not made from pain and fear, but in the freedom of choice to not be steered by impulse and emotion.
On a sidenote: Notice the land of Quekanuit must be entered from the Land of the Mighty Fahmu! It is from the Fahmu the initiate learns the methods of proper breathing. Breath regulation and the stilling of emotions go hand in hand.
These are lessons from the Dream of Quekanuit.

Excellent article as the subject of the Quekanuit is often not expanded upon. However, this article stresses the importance of this Dream.
